Our newest Hmoodle Girl is one of those people you expect to do big things. She's not only easy on the eyes, but she is very goal oriented. She also has a very infectious personality. She's non other than Fanta Lor.
If you've been to a Kindbeats event you may have seen her roaming the dance floor as she is a member of their music making family. When's she's not doing her Kindbeats promoting she is a student of the University of Minnesota. Definitely keeping herself busy at all times. I was able to find a time in her schedule to get to know Fanta and here is the outcome of that interview. Ryan: I'm here with the very beautiful Fanta Lor. Congrats Fanta on being selected as our newest Hmoodle Girl. Fanta: Thank you very much for this opportunity. I am very pleased. Ryan: Before we get started, for those who don't know you, let's give our readers some background information about yourself. Fanta: My real name is Panhia Lor. I was born and raised here in St. Paul, MN. I'm nineteen years of age and a full time student at the University of Minnesota . It's my second year and my intended major is Public affair. Ryan: I know that you recently joined the Kind Beats family. How'd that come about? Fanta: I was first inspired by my friend, Tou Fue Yang. TFY is one of the Kind Beats' DJ's. I remember going over to his house during the summer of 09' and there he was just DJing on the CDJs. I could tell he was in the zone by the way he was moving. I remember telling myself that one day I would love to be behind those decks. In September of that year, I met my friend Hong and he was also a member of Kind Beats. I remember having a conversation with him and I was telling him that I want to become a DJ for Kind Beats one day. He just started laughing at me. Despite the fact that he laughed at me he also considered it. He told me that if I want, he can accept me onto the street team until I learn how to DJ. Then from there on he gave me a helping hand by teaching me how to DJ along with many others. Ryan: So how long have you been spinning? What music do you spin? Fanta: I started in Nov 09, shortly after becoming a Kind Beats' Intern. I spin three different types of genre. Hip hop, trance and electro house. Ryan: How have your experiences been thus far since joining? Fanta: My experience has been fun! I have met many new people, made new friends, and found a real passion. DJing has helped me express my feelings and yet became my newest hobby! I finally found a group that share the same passion as me---music! Ryan: You mentioned earlier that you are attending school at the U of M and plan on getting a degree with Public Affiars. What do you plan on doing once you obtain that degree? Fanta: My intention is to help out around the community starting sometimes this year. I plan to tutor students and do many community services. By doing this, I am building up my resume so that once I graduate from college I can find a job that involve City Council or School Board. Ryan: You want to become a Senator too, right? Why is that? Fanta: Yes I do. I want to become a Senator because I want to make changes around my community. I believe that there are things that others can see that I can't and things that I can see that others can't. Everyone has a different view in life and how things should be run. I believe that my view of how I can make my community better as a Hmong woman will help benefit those who share the same struggles as me. As you set forward a new leader, that leader will make changes according to what he/she believe it right. I want the opportunities to pick up on the things that I think will benefiting too many people and my communities. Ryan: Sounds like you really want to make a change. So, when you're not spinning, promoting, and going to school, what else keeps you busy? Fanta: One thing that keeps me busy is homework and reading. College is like a never ending process of learning and reading. It's stressful, but it keeps you busy for hours. I also like to spend time with my family and friends. Sometimes I go and hang out with my friends and simply just drink coffee and have conversation. Lately I have been snowboarding. I guess this is the year that I have to learn to snowboard. Ryan: In your bio, you mention that you consider yourself a tomboy. What makes you say that? Fanta: I like this question. I guess you can say I never really learned how to be a girl. I grew up with my two brothers, my mother, and my step father. My mother would always work, so I barely got to see her. I spent most of my childhood life just hanging out with my brothers. I would find myself playing wrestling, soccer, games, collecting Pokemon cards and fishing with them. I believe growing up with them really changed the way I act and think. I remember my step dad always nagging at my mother for spending hours in the bathroom just fixing herself up. Through that, I learned, "don't spend hours in the bathroom because it's annoying!" Now I don't find myself doing a lot of things that girls don't like to do. For example, I don't like to put on makeup (maybe because I learned that guys hates when a girl hogs the bathroom). I don't like to dress up and I don't believe in spending hours on your hair. It annoys me when I see girls stress over their hair. I don't like to shop and I can never find myself shopping at the mall for more than half an hour. Ryan: Definitely not the typical girl then. With Spring around the corner, what are looking forward to this upcoming Summer? Fanta: My friends and I are planning a trip to Hong Kong, China. I look forward to it because I have never been outside of the country, so I really want to know what it's like in other places. Ryan: I know Kindbeats is teaming up with us once again for the Beach Ballin' Event, but what other events are coming up that our readers should know about? Fanta: Well, we do have "Flirt" which is our monthly free cover event at Karma night club. Beside Beach Ballin', our next big event will be "United" which July 2nd and 3rd at Epic Night club. So I hope to see everyone there! Ryan: I want to thank you for being apart of Hmoodle. Any last words for our readers? Fanta: Yes. Don't ever let anyone put you down. Whatever you do in life, just remember that there are always going to be people who support you and there will always be people against you, but in the end, it all comes down to you. To how much you are willing to fight to get where you want to get. One thing I do like about Fanta is she is very well spoken and gets her message across. Her aspiration to become a Senator and change the community she lives in is inspiring. I hope that this is goal that she can achieve. You should definitely come out to Kindbeats Beach Ballin' event on March 12th. You can celebrate Hmoodle's two year anniversary and possible meet the very beautiful Fanta Lor.
