First off, I was born in Morganton, NC and basically raised in Minnesota for the most part. I was raised in North Minneapolis until 7th grade then we moved to the suburbs. I had an experience of adjusting myself to different environments. I am 20 years old and soon to turn 21. I have 6 siblings (3 sisters and 3 brothers); me being the middle child, 3rd daughter and last daughter left not married yet. Currently, I attend the University of Minnesota Twin Cities majoring in Biochemistry and doing pre-pharmacy prerequisites at the same time. I hope to finish in 5 years of undergrad to better prepare myself for pharmacy school. I do understand that my parents, like all other Hmong parents, wants their child to graduate as soon as possible so they will have a child to brag about, but my point of view is that I would like to have a full experience of new adventures before the big dream (Pharmacy School). New adventures for myself means finding out more about what I am interested in, doing things out of the ordinary and keeping my schedules booked. All of these include always on a look out for Hmong Youth Programs, new volunteering opportunities, exciting jobs or internships and finding a way to get out of this country to enjoy life abroad!!
My plans for this summer is volunteer at the Minnesota Children's Hospitals and Clinics, volunteer for the Concordia Hmong Language and Culture Program, work at CVS/Pharmacy (Pharmacy technician) and begin my second job as a student lab attendant at the University in the Biochemistry Department in last August. I also hope to find some time for community events, such as festivals and gatherings. Behind all of my present and future plans/goals, I have a history in a lot of art! I remember my love to paint, especially flowers. Then I grew to love to draw and I became really good at it, but somehow I grew out of it, in which I wish I had stuck with drawing. I was also a traditional dancer along with my little sister, who is now a Mom of a beautiful new baby girl: Evenlynn Kia Lor! I remember competing at Hmong New Years and traveling across the country! It was a lot of fun and a great way to get yourself out there. I also cheerlead in high school for a year and a half and had a lot of fun with that as well. Now, that I actually think of it, I did a lot of fun and exciting active things in the past and now, exciting things means helping out my community and planning for my future goals and career. Wow, life really does go by fast.
