Its that time of month once again where Hmoodle introduces you to our newest Hmoodle Girl. The latest addition to our collection is the very adorable Lena Xiong, whose personality shines through as you read through her interview.
Lena Xiong is a twenty year old from Arkansas. She has the distinction of being the first Hmoodle Girl selected from that state. She describes herself as being corny and fun, but she's also got that look that can make you melt. You may recognize her if you've been to a ChozenOne Productions Party as she has been a featured go-go dancer with them. Recently I caught up with Lena. Here is the outcome of that interview. Hmoodle: I am here with Lena Xiong, our newest Hmoodle Girl. First, let me congratulate you for being selected as a Hmoodle Girl. Lena: Thank you so much for this opportunity. I usually don't sign up for these type of things so I was really surprised when I was selected. Maybe its a sign that I should do more? laughs Hmoodle: Yes, you definitely should. First, why don't you tell our readers a bit about yourself. Lena: Well, Lena is what everyone calls me but it's not my real name and I'll just let you keep guessing what it is! laughs I am really a Xyooj in the Hmong world, but in the American world I go by a Yang. It's a long and confusing story. I'm just a normal typical girl. I love music, dancing, socializing, partying, and chilling as well. I play guitar, drums, bass guitar, a little bit of piano, and I sing. I love all sports. Colts are my number one team! I'm really down to earth, laid back, and people tell me I'm always smiling. I'm the type of girl that would crack a joke on you if you did it to me. People tell me I'm funny and that I laugh a lot. Even though I have this side of me, I do have a more mature side. I've been out of my parents house and responsibility since I got out of high school in 2008. I have my own apartment with a roommate. I pay for my own bills. I have a job, and I go to college. Hmoodle: I know that you are living in Arkansas now. Is this where you are originally from? Lena: Definitely not! My parents, little brother, and I moved here when I just turned sixteen. My parents were tired of their old job so they wanted to come here to raise chickens on the farm. I was born in Green Bay, WI and moved to St. Paul, MN soon there after then. My family then went to Indiana for my teenage years and then we ended up here in Arkansas. Arkansas isn't as horrible as people think. If you know the right people, you'll feel like you never wanna leave this place. smiles Hmoodle: Are you attending college, if so, where? Lena: I am attending a community college called NWACC. I choose this place because it was cheaper than the university down here and I am paying it on my own with the help of financial aid. Hmoodle: What are you trying to major in? What made you select this? Lena: Honestly, I'm still seeking what I want to pursue for the rest of my life. I don't want to pick something so difficult to where I know that I'll be unhappy in my life, but I don't want to pick something that brings me a horrible income. I first went to business, then communications, then general music, but now I am currently in marketing. We'll see what happens. Hmoodle: The summer is half way over. Have you been able to enjoy it? Lena: This summer has been incredible. I've been traveling a lot and just enjoying the partying environment right now. Isn't that what summers for? laughs There has been ups and downs but I just look past that. Hmoodle: Anything planned for the remainder of the summer? Lena: I'm just going with the flow right now. Summer is ending and I'm starting to put in more job applications and starting to push myself to grow up more. Hmoodle: I read that you enjoy music a lot and that you play guitar, drums, and sing. What types of music do you enjoy playing? Lena: I enjoy all types of music even country! laughs I've been getting into trance and techno a lot more though. I love beats and how it gets people so hyped! I love R&B as well. If you were to put something on, I'll probably bob my head to it no matter what. Hmoodle: What type of music inspires you and why? Lena: The type of music that inspires me are the ones that have the lyrics to make you freeze and think. When I hear one of those it makes me feel as if I need to write my own songs to get my own message out. I've been writing songs since I was young and I've learned a lot for my own lyrics. You can even check out my music Myspace at myspace.com/gaolenaxiong and listen to "Hmong Anthem." This song speaks for itself. Hmoodle: You also mentioned that you do some go-go work as well. How'd you get into that? Lena: I absolutely love go-going. Everything about it from the outfits to dancing to socializing and etc. One of best friend's sister was a go-go dancer, but I never really thought about it. She asked me a couple times to go-go with her, but I never said yes until last year in October. Ever since then, I've became addicted to it! I love doing it. It makes me feel confident and allows me to have fun. Hmoodle: Have you enjoyed those experiences as a go-go? Lena: I definitely have. I know some people look down at go-going but there is nothing wrong with it. We are just dancers to hype up the crowd. When people make a big deal out of what we wear, I just look at them and say "Hey, well look at what your girlfriend or sister wore to the club and shes not even getting paid." Hmoodle: Besides music, what other hobbies do you enjoy? Lena: Honestly, I don't have a lot of hobbies. All I do is play my guitar and write my own songs. I'm usually out chilling with my friends, working at my job, or working on go-go events. But I do love texting! Hmoodle: What types of goals and aspirations do you have for yourself? Lena: When I was a little girl I always wanted to be Britney Spears, but I guess I should change that now laughs. I honestly do want to get out there with my music, but there's just so much competition in the world that I tend to give up easily. I guess my goal in life is just to be happy with whatever decision I choose. Passion and satisfaction go hand-in-hand so if I don't have one for what I want to do, it won't work in the end. God is always there and he has my route planned already, I just have to get there. Hmoodle: I hope that route is an enjoyable one. Do you have any last words for our readers? Lena: Thanks so much for this opportunity again and for reading. Remember to be proud of who you are. "H-M-O-N-G means to be free." The war is still going on. Lets stop hating and help one another. God Bless. I always enjoy an interview when the other person has alot to say. Lena definitely is out going and holds nothing back. She's a girl with a lot of talent and appears to have a great outlook on life. It will be interesting to see how things turn out for her. I'm guessing she'll achieve anything and everything she sets her mind out to do. I want to congratulate Lena once again on being selected as a Hmoodle Girl.
